Notes Vacant Grade II listed buildings in Alnwick town centre location. The main building has stood empty for some time, last being utilised as offices by HMRC several years ago. Offers opportunity for sensitive conversion of the main listed building. There could be an opportunity to supplement this with additional new-build development following clearance of other non-listed buildings and outbuildings that remain in situ. An application for conversion and alteration of the main listed building to residential use was permitted in 2015 (15/00835/COU). Works did not commence within the necessary timeframe and the permission lapsed due to non-implementation. Recently confirmed (EiP 2020) that the landowner is still looking to progress redevelopment of the site and is currently working towards a revised proposal. The landowner considers that 16 to 23 homes would be optimum number of dwellings, allowing the listed buildings to be reused and taking account of demolition of the poor quality prefab structures. However, the lower yield identified is considered more fitting for the location and in the context of the listed building. Currently considered developable in the medium-term (6-10 years), following approval of a revised scheme. Facts
