Both pubs had been disused for a number of years and would need to be demolished prior to redevelopment. The site was originally identified for mixed-use scheme, being part of a wider proposal for the relocation of Newbiggin Library. An initial permission for construction of a three-storey building was granted in 2015 (15/01569/CCD). This was to provide floorspace for the library at ground floor with 8 affordable apartments above. This scheme was then amended in 2017 with the ground-floor being altered to provide retail/commercial units instead (17/02423/COU). This was due to the preferred location for the new library being changed to another site. Works commenced on the revised scheme in 2017. Development of 8 dwellings completed in 2017/18. 2020-12-17
