Grade II listed Hadrian House located within the centre of Hexham that has had a variety of uses over the years. The main building is a three-storey Georgian townhouse that was altered in 1839, when a large extension was added at the rear. After alteration, the building became a large Wesleyan chapel until 1877 when it became the main Post Office for Hexham. In the 1970s the Post Office relocated and the building was utilised as offices, firstly by the Department of the Environment, and later Northumberland County Council. In recent times it has been a register office but is now vacant and available for redevelopment through sensitive conversion. A higher yield would reflect the central location and the density of the proposed flatted scheme. A permitted scheme for 8 apartments, through alteration and conversion, is now in place (17/01204/FUL). The works would provide 3 apartments on the ground-floor, a further 3 apartments on the first-floor and a single apartment on the second-floor. The basement area would be converted to provide the final flat. Development yet to commence but forecast for completion within the next 5 years.
