Notes | NU 02 NW CHATTON FOWBERRY 4/19 Fowberry Lodge 11 Lodge. Dated 1829 but probably 1770's or '80's'. Ashlar with local slate roof. Gothick style. Plain early C.19 extension behind. Single storey. Original part has central door leading to lobby and one room left and right. 3-bay facade. Ogee windows left and right with intersecting glazing bars. Ogee head to door also, but truncated by a shelf, with a rope-moulded edge, presumably to hold a dog's head (c.f. gate-piers). Fanlight with intersecting glazing bars. Above door an oval recessed panel with date, 1829, and a shell, the crest of the Milbournes, C20 owners of Fowberry. On either side of panel initials M.C, for Matthew Culley. Moulded cornice and parapet with 9 small quatrefoils. The centre bay projects slightly and has a castellated pediment. Inside a sandstone fireplace with ogee sides and a lintel with gothick tracery, c1780. , | Facts |
