Notes | ROTHBURY TOWN FOOT Nu 0501 (North side) 25/306 Rothbury Mbtors Garage II Garage, dated 1913 with initials J.T.L. Rock-faced front and dressings, snecked stone returns; Welsh slate roof with glazed sections and red tile cresting. 2 storeys. Broad 3-bay gabled front with large buttresses has pair of shop windows flanking central recess with 2 part-glazed doors; datestone above, beneath 4-light casement window. Boarded double doors under basket arch in left bay, and casement window to right. Stepped and shaped gable with flat coping. Left return in 2 parts: main 9-bay part with stepped buttresses and windows in alternate bays, lower unbuttressed 2-bay part to left with casement windows. Buttressed right return has pent outshut. Interior: Cast-iron roof trusses with diagonal strutting. A photograph probably taken at the opening of the garage, now in the Tourist Information Centre, shows that this Pre-World War I garage is virtually unaltered; it is a rare survival. , | Facts |
