Notes | Retaining wall. Probably at least early C19. Roughly-coursed Devonian limestone rubble with the natural bedrock projecting in places at the bottom; buttressed in 3 places. Chamfered coping of limestone and other stones, with some red brick; alongside the steps leading up from The Quay the coping is not chamfered, and opposite No.14 Overgang (qv) the top of the wall has been replaced by an iron railing having at each end a square pier with pyramidal cap. The wall, together with the Overgang houses behind it, is an important part of the townscape, especially when seen from the other side of the harbour. Listing NGR: SX9257456438 | Facts |
