Notes | Existing single-storey retail unit in Longhoughton that historically had been a Naafi store servicing RAF Boulmer, serving the community since the 1940s. The building has latterly comprised of one large shop and a smaller unit, alongside associated storage space. Until recently, the main unit was operated by Spar and also provided the village Post Office, but was vacant following closure in 2016. The smaller premises have continued to be occupied as a hairdressing salon. The site was owned by the MoD for many years and has been identified in the past as having potential for redevelopment. Demolition would be required prior to such a redevelopment. However, the site was sold in 2019 with new owner confirmed that the building had been earmarked for alternative uses. An application for conversion of the existing retail unit to a cafe has recently been permitted (20/00229/FUL). As a result, this site is no longer available for redevelopment for residential use. No future delivery is now forecast from the site. | Facts |
