The site lies in an area of international archaeological importance, on the AngloSaxon and medieval Waterfront of Ipswich and within the Area of Archaeological Importance (IPS 413). It is highly sensitive and development must consider the historic environment which surrounds it. The site is within the Central and Wet Dock Conservation Areas and opposite the grade I listed and Scheduled Monument of Wolsey’s Gate.
