Article 4 Direction: Land at Runfold and West Farms, Farnham (A4D-14) was made by Waverley District Council on 19 January 1983 under the Town and Country Planning General Development Order 1977. The Direction removed permitted development rights for several categories. It restricted the erection and alteration of gates, fences, walls and means of access (Class II), temporary buildings and uses including painting, temporary structures, and use of land for up to 28 days a year (Class IV), and a range of agricultural operations such as new buildings, roadside stands, and mineral workings (Class VI). It also withdrew rights for the use of land as a caravan site except in specified circumstances (Class XXII). By withdrawing these rights, the Council ensured that boundary treatments, temporary activities, agricultural works, and caravan use at Runfold and West Farms required express planning permission.

Article 4 Direction: Farnham Trading Estate, Water Lane, Farnham (A4D-07) was made by Farnham Urban District Council on 12 October 1965 under the Town and Country Planning General Development Order 1963. The Direction withdrew a wide range of permitted development rights affecting both residential and industrial land at the Trading Estate. It restricted substantial enlargements or alterations to dwellinghouses (Class I), the erection of incidental outbuildings within curtilages (Class I), and boundary treatments such as gates, fences and walls (Class II). It also removed rights for temporary buildings associated with operations (Class IV) and for temporary uses of land not exceeding 28 days a year (Class IV). In addition, the Direction curtailed industrial development rights, including works, plant, machinery, or extensions to premises otherwise permitted under Class VIII. By withdrawing these rights, the Council brought both domestic and industrial development at Farnham Trading Estate under tighter planning control.

Article 4 Direction: Land at 70 Middle Bourne Lane, Farnham (A4D-08) was introduced by Farnham Urban District Council on 23 February 1966 under the Town and Country Planning General Development Order 1963. The Direction removed permitted development rights under Class I, which would otherwise have allowed the erection or alteration of incidental buildings and enclosures within the curtilage of the dwellinghouse, such as sheds, poultry houses, or other small structures for domestic use. By withdrawing these rights, the Council ensured that even minor outbuildings and enclosures at the property required planning permission.

Article 4 Direction: West Cottage, 2 School Hill, Wrecclesham (A4D-10) was made by Farnham Urban District Council on 26 April 1971 under the Town and Country Planning General Development Order 1963. The Direction removed permitted development rights under Class I, which would otherwise have allowed the erection or alteration of a garage within the curtilage of the dwelling, including enlargements or alterations to the house to provide one. By withdrawing these rights, the Council ensured that any garage construction or related works at West Cottage required full planning permission.

Article 4 Direction: Land West of Green Lane, Farnham (A4D-11) was introduced by Waverley District Council on 23 September 1975 under the Town and Country Planning General Development Order 1973. The Direction removed several permitted development rights, including the erection or alteration of gates, fences and walls (Class II), the formation of new means of access to a highway (Class II), and the painting of the exterior of buildings other than for advertisements or signage (Class II). It also withdrew rights for temporary buildings and works required in connection with approved operations (Class IV). By bringing these categories under full planning control, the Council aimed to manage boundary treatments, access points, external appearance, and temporary operational structures on land west of Green Lane.

Article 4 Direction: Munstead Oaks, Brighton Road, Godalming (A4D-05) was introduced by Hambledon Rural District Council in 1960 under the Town and Country Planning General Development Order 1950. The Direction removed permitted development rights under Class IV – Temporary use of land (4B), which would otherwise have allowed the land to be used for up to twenty-eight days in total in any calendar year for the taking off and landing of aircraft. The Direction ensured that such temporary aviation activities required express planning permission in order to proceed.
